Zapier AI Agents: intelligent, no-code automation for sales and support
Zapier launches an AI agents platform that automates complex sales and support flows for SMBs without writing any code.

For years, the promise of automation for small and medium businesses has run into the same obstacle: tools were either too simple for real scenarios, or too complex for organizations without a development team. Zapier has just taken a concrete step to bridge that gap with the launch of Zapier AI Agents, a platform that allows building autonomous workflows for sales and customer support without writing a single line of code.
This is no longer a layer of "AI" glued on top of trigger-based automation. It is an architectural change with real implications for teams that operate with limited headcount.
What exactly is Zapier AI Agents
Zapier AI Agents is an extension of the Zapier platform that introduces autonomous agents capable of making sequential decisions, not just executing a preprogrammed action. While a traditional Zap works on the logic "if X happens, do Y", an agent operates with a defined objective and chooses an execution path based on context.
In practice: you set the agent an objective, for example, "follow up with leads who have not replied within 48 hours", and define the guardrails, that is, the limits within which it can act. The agent then accesses the available integrations, assesses the current state of the data and decides which actions to take, in what order and with what content.
This is different from a linear flow with conditionals. The agent reasons about the state of the data, not only about whether a condition was true or false.
Integrations that make the model work in real life
Zapier AI Agents already supports direct integration with HubSpot (for sales CRM), Slack (for internal communication and alerts), Gmail, Google Sheets and dozens of other tools in the Zapier ecosystem, which today includes more than 7,000 connected apps.
The HubSpot integration is particularly relevant. An agent can monitor the opportunity pipeline, identify a lead that has been stalled for more than two days, draft a personalized email based on the contact history and also notify the owner in Slack, all without human intervention. The salesperson only steps in when the agent signals that approval is needed or when the conversation evolves into a real negotiation.
Why this matters for SMBs in Brazil
I will be direct: most Brazilian SMBs do not have the budget for a RevOps team or to hire automation engineers. What they have are repetitive processes consuming hours of people who are too expensive to be doing low cognitive value work.
Sales follow-up is the classic example. Industry data indicates that it takes, on average, between 5 and 8 interactions to convert a qualified lead, but most SMB sales teams abandon contact after the second attempt, simply due to lack of time and organization. An agent that executes that cadence consistently, without forgetting, without delay, and that adapts the message to the lead's context, solves a problem that no sales training fixes on its own.
Zapier claims teams using the agents platform can scale operations 50% faster by delegating repetitive cognitive tasks. That figure deserves caution, as it depends heavily on the process and the operation's maturity level, but the direction is consistent with what I see in clients who already implement more sophisticated automations.
What changes in operations, cost and risk
In operations: sales and support teams can focus on higher value tasks, such as negotiations, relationship building and resolving complex problems, while the agent handles cadence, triage and initial communication.
In cost: the alternative to an agent like this would be a combination of separate tools (email sequencer, CRM with automation, support chatbot) plus the time of a developer to integrate them. Zapier AI Agents consolidates that in an interface that an operations manager can configure directly.
In risk: here lies the point no SaaS salesperson will tell you. Autonomous agents need well defined guardrails. A poorly configured agent can send out of context messages, duplicate communications or escalate situations that should be handled with human care. The good news is Zapier built approval controls and action limits directly into the platform, but the manager needs to understand the process before automating it. Automating a bad process only accelerates the mistake.
How to get started without getting lost
The practical recommendation I give FM Solutions clients is always the same: start with the most repetitive and least critical process. For Zapier AI Agents, a good entry point is postmeeting follow-up, where the agent sends a summary, schedules the next contact and logs it in the CRM. Low risk, high frequency, visible results in weeks.
After validating the agent's behavior in a simple flow, you expand with confidence to customer support, lead qualification or contract renewals.
Zapier AI Agents is available on the platform's paid plans, with access rolled out by tier. For SMBs already using the Zapier ecosystem, the adoption barrier is low, since existing tool knowledge carries over.
Intelligent automation is no longer exclusive to companies with engineering teams. The question now is not if your company will adopt AI agents, but when, and whether it will do so with discipline or simply by chasing novelty.
